Ad Selection?

March 15th, 2007

Just a quick post today.. been busy with work..

I was reading the local (online) newspaper today and came across this article.

What struck me was not so much the article, but rather the ad that had been placed next to it.. sometimes automatic as placements send an unintended message – (click the picture to make it readable).

For those readers who aren’t familliar with Rugby, it’s kind of equivalent to American football.

If you have two sites — one has a very low CPM, and very low click-through rate.
The other is new — but has the potential to have a very high CPM and high click-thru rate.

Will the first site hurt the second’s earnings?

    Hiya Susie!

    In short, no.

Each site is going to make its own amount of money regardless, although your earnings per 1000 impressions will certainly not ‘appear’ as good as some other sites because half of your 1000 views will come from the other site – capiche?

Best way to breakdown the earnings is to use custom channels in adsense.

There is a setting in the adsense.php file in blixkrieg where you can enter a custom channel for each site, or if you’d like, you can use URL Channels –

see this FAQ for more information on channels.
