and I know you're tech savvy, so I'll explain verification to you.. click on 'manage verification' (or something similar) on the left hand side.. don't worry about 'meta verification' - just choose the add a file option..

Then open notepad on XP, and save the blank file as the name given to you - it will be a weird name - someting like google3d2f1d3d.html or similar..

then download it to your root directory (ie the one that has wp-content, wp-includes etc in it) and click verify.. hopefully (if you're 404's are set up right) you'll be all ready to go.

One extra thing -

As you know, this blog is devoted (mostly) to wordpress and search engine optimisation (with quite a few tangents on the way)..

Isn't it great to see (as Susie pointed out) that within minutes of my post, we now seem (according to the ads) to be the place to go if you want horse jobs.. :)

This whole Google adsense thing I find fascinating..

Good Night!

No probs Joni - the pleasure is entirely mine - you've done a great job.. You'll note (and folks, Joni gave me access to her google webmaster tools login temporarily while I helped her) that I have used your three most clicked key phrases in my links to you - whilst my 'toolbar pagerank' is currently zero, don't let that fool you - it's purely because my blog is new and toolbar PR only updates once every 3 or 4 months, on average.

Judging from the rapidity with which my posts reach the top of the google search results for my chosen keywords, and the number of blogs I have linking to this site, I'd be suprised if Google doesn't consider this blog PR 5 or better, so hopefully my 'link love' (a rather blunt term that I'm not sure if I like) will help you move up the search engine results for those key phrases.. and provide you with some compensation for the great effort you've made in giving this blog some 'artistic flair' :)

Here's a thing - why not go to your webmaster tools login, see where you currently rank for those key phrases, and go back and check them in a few weeks - I'd love to hear.

Generally speaking, 'anchor text' (the phrase or words others use to link to your site) seems to be quite a powerful part of search engine ranking, especially if (like you Joni) your key phrases are not highly competitive.

On one of my other sites (<a href="http://www.backlesslingerie.com" rel="nofollow">backless lingerie</a>) I managed to get from around 200th position for the lucrative and highly competitive keyword 'lingerie' to about 13th position just by releasing a press release containing the anchor text '<a href="http://www.backlesslingerie.com" rel="nofollow">lingerie</a>' in links to my site.

I've since recently dropped to 56th position, but that's my fault, because I got a bit overzealous with the content of my site and 'over optimized' with the word lingerie to the extent that the page was almost unreadable.. I should have known better, and the drop in position came within about 2 weeks.. ah well, you live and you learn, I guess...

On the plus side, I also optimised for the word 'panties' in the process, and that term seems to have gone up in positioning, such that it is almost in the top ten from a previous position of around 39... so it's evened out - no major traffic loss.. LUCKY! and 'panty line' is another matter entirely..

Anyway folks - I'm off to bed, ready to get up at sparrows fart to go to take the dog for a walk.

Thanks for all your feedback!

Cheers,
