Yahoo Sidebar Link Badge Widget For WordPress
February 7th, 2007
Download SiteExplorer WordPress Widget Here
or you can see the widget in action HERE.
We’ve noticed lots of people are looking for the ‘Yahoo Sidebar’
Unfortunately, Yahoo doesn’t offer a windows sidebar just yet.
What you are probably thinking of is the ‘Google Desktop Bar’ – which adds a load of additional features to windows xp in a neat sidebar that makes XP look very much like Vista.
That sidebar comes as a package – which you can download below.
ABOUT THE SITEXPLORER WIDGET…
If you are interested in SEO, you’ll know that Google is pretty useless when it comes to showing sites linking to your own using the link: search engine modifier.
Traditionally, the best way to get an estimate of just how many sites are linking to you has been to search either Alexa, MSN or Yahoo using the site: search modifier. Most of us that are seriously in to search engine optimisation have a favourite though.
I prefer using Yahoo, as they seem to update regularly, and their SiteXplorer tool gives a much better idea of the true number of sites linking to your own.
Recently, Yahoo has released the SiteExplorer Badge, which is a great little box you can add to your site to let everyone know just how popular you are 🙂 It’s a great tool, and I’m sure it will take off rapidly.
I’ve added one of these widgets to my index page and also dutifully converted the SiteExplorer Link Badge to a wordpress widget – so it’s super easy for you to add it to your site.
You can see the widget in action here.
A couple of “gotcha’s” –
- When you first install the link badge, don’t be suprised if it shows a blank where the numbers should be. I suspect that yahoo comes around for a quick look at your page before it activates the functionality.
- If this happens, wait about an hour and the prob should be fixed.
You can Download My Free Yahoo SiteExplorer WordPress Widget here – just unzip it, and put the resulting file in your wordpress/plugins/widgets/ folder, and then activate it – Bob’s your uncle 🙂
Cheers,
Duck

One method is to engage in search engine marketing, along the lines of a Pay-Per-Click campaign, such as AdWords or Adsense. This form of advertising is helpful for smaller businesses with tighter advertising budgets, as there is a limit on the cost per click for each campaign.

Just installed it and seems quite impressive. I was surprised when i checked my backlinks had increase compared to before. The reason was i was typing in www. instead of http://www. This made a huge difference as it showed an extra 7000 backlinks. Great widget! Thanks.
